How Is Gold Produced?
For as long as we can all remember, gold has been considered one of the world's greatest stores of value, being used for a multitude of purposes of all kinds. Its extraordinary properties, such as the electric conductivity, malleability and rich shine have lead to it being thought of as a symbol of wealth and prosperity.
In nature, gold can be found as nuggets or grains in alluvial deposits and veins. It also occurs as part of various alloys, being mixed with silver, mercury or copper. In order to discover gold deposits, geologists use different technologies, such as satellite tracking or drilling. Afterwards, they analyze the surrounding environment and decide on the right design for the extraction mine; only then can they start the construction of the site.
In order to extract the metal, they use special equipment that breaks up large pieces of ore and brings them above the surface of the ground. These pieces are then examined and geologists determine the proper way of proceeding in order to obtain pure gold. Generally speaking, the ore is crushed into small pieces and undergoes a series of mechanical, thermal and chemical procedures so as to transform it into a solution that contains dissolved gold particles. Afterwards, gold is precipitated from the solution and melted into 90% purity gold bars, which are sent over to another refinery, where they become 99.9% gold pieces.
Special equipment is used to extract the ore, then crush it into pieces that go into the labs for analysis. There, geologists determine the proper way to proceed in order to refine the metal. Going on, the ore is shattered into small fractions and is subjected to a series of procedures that lead to a solution of dissolved gold particles. Gold is then precipitated from that solution and transformed into 90% purity gold ingots. Afterwards, these ingots are sent to a special refinery, where they are turned into 99.9% gold bars.
You should also know that gold can be extracted from electronic or jewelry scraps, in order to return it to circulation. This way, by means of recycling and intelligent administration of our gold resources, we can preserve them and enjoy our gold-powered way of life for many years to come.
