How Much Does The Gold In Fort Knox Weighs?
The unknown is a permanent inspiration for conspiracy theories and interesting stories. When subjects like Area 51 or other places surrounded by mystery due to their high level of security and limited access, appear in newspapers or movies they guarantee the public interest in that specific item. The same way people believe that Area 51 is a place which has something to do with aliens or time-traveling, various assumptions are woven around Fort Knox.
The United States Bullion Depository borrowed its name from the location where it was built. The fortress is the place where the United States have deposited a large part of their gold reserves. It shelters the biggest gold reserve after the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. For safety reasons, the United States Mint also deposited gold in the Philadelphia Mint, the Denver Mint, the West Point Bullion Depository and the San Francisco Assay Office.
Not only the United States, but other countries also used this fortress to shelter their most important objects. Among these there are the English Crown Jewels and Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States which were kept in Fort Knox in times of war or social crisis. The 22 ton door is enough to to discourage any attempt of breaking its defenses. And for more safety an entire army of special officers and the latest technology is also available.
Official statements say that there are around 4603 tons of gold bullion in Fort Knox. They consist of gold bars, coin gold bars, with a lower level of purity of gold, and gold coins. Agitator voices claim that the amount of gold has significantly decreased during the past decades because it was used to remedy economical problems. But since there are no palpable proofs to back this theory up, it only remains one of the many conspiracy theories.
Even for the most honest persons gold represents an irresistible temptation. After you buy gold bullion you are soon forced to find the best way to protect it. At a larger scale, Fort Knox is a safe for American gold. Gold is protected here through several means starting with alarms, video cameras, specially trained police officers and Army units. All this security arsenal is meant to tell the American people that the gold stored there is a guarantee of the economical power of the country.
