The Glittering Metal In Europe
Gold is a precious metal that has been around us for years. The yellow metal is an important element in our lives and in our economies.
Most of the European gold is produced in Sweden, Finland and Spain. But new mines have emerged in the mining industry such as the ones in Turkey and Greece. The mine in France has nearly exhausted the gold reserves this is why it is set to close in the near future.
Mining in the Old continent has begun a very long time ago. The Romans were the ones that have invented the hydraulic method of mining precious metals such as gold and silver. The water was used to carry out the rock and other debris. The massive amounts of water were designed to cut open the ground and expose the bedrock and the gold veins that might have been there.
The Romans have developed this method in 25 AD in Spain in order to extract the large quantities of gold that were found there. The largest site in Spain at that time was Las Medullas. In order to gather the necessary water, seven aqueducts were built to tap local rivers. Another place where mining began from early years is Britain. But when the Romans came, the mining process changed. Because they were so greedy for gold, the Romans fastly discovered that Britain was full of precious metals such as gold, silver, lead and tin and started exhausting the local reserves.
Gold has been and will be one of the most important assets we can own. The precious metal is and will be a great way to invest in our future. In our days, the financial turmoil, the inflation and the continuous fluctuations in paper currencies have pushed people into investing in gold. It is known that the yellow metal is the best hedge against inflation. This is why it is good to invest in it.
